Thank you, Kaila! It is a simpler yet more rewarding life, if you are not trapped by things :-). We are heading to Panama right now and plan to sail around Central America for about three-four years, with sojourns to the Caribbean islands in the winter. Then, the Pacific Islands likely.
Thanks, Janice. Monona is an Island Packet. She is comfortable and seaworthy. We love the boat. She does not have the storied history of your beauty but she takes care of us well… Maybe, we will see you around Cape Horn?
I'd guess that we hang with the penguins for a while and then return northbound on the same side of the continents....after a stop in the Falklands...but planning is one of those things that we sailors don't do all that well....it's a beautiful thing...enjoy every minute!
My favorite part of this was “A full day has passed, and I am twelve percent done. Why am I doing all of this? Because I need to replace a seventeen-dollar part”
Hahaha yep, been there! Your humor amid all the hard work makes me smile. Looking forward to hearing more soon!
Awwww man, that sucks!!!! But I'll be honest though, I'm laughing 😂. We've all been there, and I can only imagine your facial expressions and animated outcries as you discovered these things along the way. Yachting...it's just so glamorous, and exactly like what they show you in those fancy boat brochures!
Love what you’re doing (being and keeping safe) but sorry you have to go through it, though it sounds like there’s some part of it you’re enjoying. I’m enjoying your writing these days—seems you’re finding time to write amidst the mess!
Today, we finished the work on the engine and it is ready to run! So a big win and a happy day :-). We fixed many little things along the way too.
Honestly, I don't really have time to write. I am carving it out of my sleep. But lately writing has been a necessity - a therapy to qualm the anxiety of preparation :-). Thank you for reading the stories!
Exciting times! I do know a little of the strife involved in sailing and boats. It’s not an easy life and kudos to you two for your courage. Do you have a destination in mind? Or simply moving for the foreseeable future?
Amazing! I have been to the Yucatan, down through Belize briefly, and then on to Guatemala. I loved it all, although much of my travels were a long, long way from the coast. But if you are thinking to leave the boat and travel inland at all, then definitely Guatemala and the mountains where you cross back into Mexico. San Cristobal and down to Palenque.
Love this, Egor. I've never been much of a boat person, but the way you describe it sounds like a beautiful, peaceful, fulfilling lifestyle.
How long do you guys plan to go on sailing the Caribbean for?

Hey Egor! This does sound like our five year dream...stop at every island in the Caribbean and then head south....until we see the penguins...
There is always something, many things, to lubricate, tweak, refresh, replace or repair. It's pure love of the life, not because it is easy.
I'll be following your passages jealously until we get back on the water. Enjoy!!
What kind of vessel is she?
J

And in the process of replacing the $17 part, you spent $900 because you find things you did not realize were in need of fixing, lol.

Sailboat Cruising - fixing a boat in exotic locations, as they define it in a dictionary, I think.

Have you been to Central or South America? We are looking for recommendations - always!

We will be in Central America for a couple of years. Mostly in Panama and Costa Rica, then we will see.
