That was well written, very gripping. I like the analogy of fog at sea with that of the mind.

Thank you for writing this piece. Sailing isn’t always idyllic. I need the reminders. I’m a romantic!

Thank you for reading, April. It surprising how few perfect sailing days we actually get. Most passages have one or two unpleasant moments, it seems. But it is still worth it.

Loved this:

"My back muscles shoot a ray of pain into my neck and head, and squeeze my lungs. How long have I been tensing?"

I just told April that was how I felt in the C&D with an engine that acted up the whole way, and knowing I wasn't supposed to anchor anywhere.

We're leaving Cape May on Sunday night and heading your way.

I feel you - tense: constant thinking about bail out options and sail angles, and hoping the engine keeps chugging along. We had some engine problems at the wrong spots as well. 😅

Safe passage! We left Block Island and are in Provincetown, MA. Jumping to Bar Harbor, ME on Tuesday.

Great feelings here! I always say, "I can risk my life but YOU cannot risk my life (with your carelessness or idiocy.)"

Walk the cemetery while you are there. Some great descriptions of the characters within.

Yes, don’t risk our lives - such a simple thing that takes young people too long to learn.

We left Block Island for Nantucket, but in the fall we will walk the cemetery. Thanks for the tip.

Beautiful story. I love how you illustrate the tension and relief of navigating through life’s uncertainties. The journey through the fog, symbolizing life’s challenges, leads to a moment of clarity and new beginnings, reminding us that perseverance and cautious optimism can guide us to safe harbors and fresh perspectives.
